Firstly in 2018, the Culinary Consultants conducted in cooperation with the think tank Food & Health e.V. the so-called Food & Health-Canteen Test. Therefore, more than fifty corporate canteens were tested toward the goals responsibility, enjoyment and health. A jury consisting of nine interdisciplinary members from the fields medicine, science, food production and gastronomy were assessing the canteens. The canteens were assessed in the categories responsibility, health and enjoyment whereby five stars were representing the best possible outcome. To communicate the best canteens, the results of the best canteens were published in the magazine FOCUS in September 2018. The results should raise the awareness for the importance and impact of corporate catering. Millions of people are eating day by day their lunch at the office’s canteen. The canteen as buyers of agricultural products have a big impact. It is also their responsibility to provide their employees a balanced and healthy menu in regard of their productivity but also for the overall satisfaction. Especially in times of “the war of talents” canteens are playing a vital role for employer branding and is representing the company’s culture. There are already many canteens being extraordinarily aware of their impact and offering a sustainable, conscious concept. It is important to communicate these concepts and role model concepts. The test should initiate canteens to compare their concepts with other concepts and make them learn from each other. The Food & Health-Canteen test will also be conducted in the following year, even with a bigger horizon expanding to Austria and Switzerland.
